Beast of Reincarnation The Cast, the Director & the Previews
Beast of Reincarnation's Japanese voice cast (Yui Ishikawa as Emma, Akio Otsuka), director Kota Furushima, and what hands-on previews said before the August 4 launch.
Beyond mechanics, Game Freak and Fictions have confirmed who voices Beast of Reincarnation, who directs it, and how it played in the hands of the press. This page gathers those officially confirmed details and preserves the dated preview record alongside the 4 August 2026 release.
The Japanese voice cast
During the PC Gaming Show on 7 June 2026, an interview with the director aired alongside new gameplay and, notably, the Japanese voice cast:
- Yui Ishikawa voices protagonist Emma. She is widely known as 2B in NieR: Automata and Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan — a marquee casting for the lead.
- Akio Otsuka also features. He is one of Japan’s most recognisable voices, best known as Solid Snake / Big Boss in the Metal Gear Solid series, among many others.
His exact role in Beast of Reincarnation was not detailed in the announcement, so we are not going to assume which character he plays until it is confirmed.
The director: Kota Furushima
The game is directed by Kota Furushima at Game Freak. He has been the studio’s public face for the project across multiple events — the Xbox Developer Direct in January, the PC Gaming Show in June, and the Los Angeles preview event in July, where he sat for interviews with outlets including IGN and Famitsu. If you want the developer’s own framing of the world and combat, his interviews are the primary source.
What the previews said
In July, Fictions flew games writers and creators to Los Angeles to play an extended section and interview Furushima. The published impressions were consistently positive:
- IGN — “a stunning action-RPG with a tactical twist.”
- GameSpot — it “could be something really special.”
- Easy Allies — “Game Freak levels up to AAA animal combat.”
- Polygon — “I got obliterated in the Pokémon team’s new Soulslike — and I can’t wait to play more.”
These are impressions of dated preview builds from a curated event, not independent review scores, so weigh them accordingly. The through-line, though, is that the tactical, hybrid nature of the combat is what stood out to people who played it — the same thing the combat overview describes.
A note on the studio
Beast of Reincarnation is developed by Game Freak — the studio behind Pokémon — and published by Fictions. That pedigree is a large part of why the game drew a curated preview tour and marquee voice casting this far ahead of launch. It is Game Freak’s move into a darker, AAA action-RPG space, not a Pokémon spin-off.
