Beast of Reincarnation is built on a fusion of real-time action and turn-based RPG combat, which is the most unusual thing about it. You control Emma and her sword abilities directly in real time, while Koo, a blighted dog, acts on your commands to unleash techniques. The pitch is that you fight as a unit rather than as a character with a pet following behind.
Now that the game has shipped, the specifics are known: a successful parry is the engine of the whole kit, feeding two separate resources — florescence points for Koo's bloom arts and the entanglement gauge for guarding, blade arts and Nushi skills. Bloom arts run through a quicktime event, bosses that cannot be stunned get dazed instead, and entanglement overdrive only slows time rather than firing off a super move.
